Ticking off Opponents

online poker tournaments are timed contests, so that the players are not just going up against each other - they are racing with the clock too. When playing a casino tournament, you should always be aware of where each blind level is at and how much longer that level has on the clock.

As the blinds escalate to higher levels and start eating away at chip stacks, the players have to start making moves to cover their blinds. Players will try to steal blinds and many will tighten up their play to conserve chips.

As the end of each level approaches, be sure to assess each player’s chip stack so you are aware who is getting closer to the felt and more desperate. Look for these poker online players to attempt to steal the blinds, and recognize that they are liable to go all-in any time they are betting behind you. When the next level is closing in, look at the stacks and think about what strategies each player might pursue to combat the blinds draining off their stacks.

By raising your awareness of the other players’ chip stacks and position when the next level blinds kick in, you will be prepared to spot opportunities to steal, or to anticipate and identify the bluff attempt from a short stacked player.
