NTRP Rating Written Description and League Comments

1.5 - 2.0 You describe yourself as a beginner. You do know how to serve and return volleys but you haven’t improved any tennis game consistency. You have learned how to keep score. You love the game and desire to meet up with other people who have the same passion.
Admin Comments: Recreational skill level, About 5% of the tennis players are in this level. You’re a competitive beginner. We’d like all Beginner’s to participate in the Partner Program until they get sufficient experience to enter in the leagues.

2.5 Needs on-tennis court experience. Has stroke weaknesses but is familiar with standard sides for singles and doubles play. 2.5 Learning to judge where the ball is going although tennis court coverage is weak. Can sustain a little rally of slow pace with other tennis players of the same skill level.
Comments: Recreational division, About 10% of the players are in this skill level. You’re an advanced beginner in this category. We hope the minimum ability players have is to be able to serve and maintain a couple stroke rally.

3.0 Moderately consistent when hitting medium-paced strokes, but isn’t comfortable with all strokes and misses execution when seeking for directional control, depth or power. Most common doubles formation is one-up and one-back.
Admin Comments: Skilled division, About 20% of the players are in this skill level

3.25 You’re in-between 3.0 and 3.5 Skill rating.
Comments: Competitive2 division, This skill level appears when the program’s league is big sufficient and we have plenty returning tennis tennis players. The inclusion of this skill level allows the league to fine tune the skill levels and the matches incline to be closer. Playoff qualifiers participate in the Competitive playoffs.

3.5 Has achieved improved tennis stroke reliability with directing control on moderate strokes, but still lacks depth and mixture. Starting to display more aggressive net play, has improved court coverage.
Admin Comments: Competitive1 skill level, About 40% of the tennis players are in this skill level. The majority of non-trained adult players are at this level.

3.75 You’re in-between 3.5 and 4.0 Skill rating.

4.0 Has dependable tennis strokes, including guiding control and depth on both forehand and backhand sides on light tennis shots, plus the ability to use lobs, overheads, approach tennis shots and volleys with some success. Occasionally forces errors when serving. Rallies may be lost due to impatience.

4.5 Starting to master the use of power and spins and beginning to handle pace, has sound footwork, can control depth of shots and is beginning to vary game plan according to opponents. Can hit first serves with power and accuracy and place the second serve. Tends to over hit on difficult strokes.
