Retired Surgeon Dr. Joel Roskind Transitions to Instructing
Plastic surgeon Joel Roskind MD, who ran a large, successful clinic on Long Island before moving to Miami to consult, has returned to the New York area to instruct, consult and pursue a personal interest in Judaic spirituality. Joel Roskind, also returns to Boston University Medical School, where he has taught previously, to teach a case management class called Integrated Problems.
Joel Roskind MD draws on a wealth of knowledge that includes running a large, successful practice; functioning as an inspector for the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAASF); lecturing at half a dozen medical schools and serving on a three-man plastic surgery team in the U.S. Navy.
As a practicing surgeon, Dr. Joel Roskind witnessed firsthand changes in the healthcare sector leading to an increasing number of processes being performed outside the traditional hospital environment. Always patient oriented, Dr. Roskind’s concerns about the safety of outpatient and ambulatory surgery facilities extended to a long association with the AAAASF, including over 20 years of service as a facilities inspector. He is well positioned to help operators of such facilities meet the highest quality standards needed by insurers today.
Joel Roskind will also draw on his clinical experience to advise Integrated Problems at Boston University. The class will cover complex problems in differential diagnosis, a subject with which he is intimately familiar. Dr. Roskind also brings a wealth of knowledge in practice management, which deals with business aspects of medicine, such as hiring and training staff, setting up electronic systems and patient relations.
Dr. Joel Roskind looks forward to bringing his expertise to a broader audience of medical students, practicing physicians and surgeons and operators of ambulatory surgery facilities. In what hopes to be a very active retirement, Joel Roskind MD also plans to follow studies in Judaic spirituality.
